Summary of CBS(Cell Broadcasting Service)
Large-volume message broadcasting technology is capable of delivering identical messages (60~230 Korean characters) to multiple subscribers through one-time message transmission, as with mobile communication technology application services in which a certain receiving ID must be entered in a cellular phone to receive data information from a base station.
Broadcasting System
Registers and sends messages through NEMA's in-house CBS system when a disaster situation is identified
*Requests possible by e-mail, fax, landline or mobile telephone, etc., when online use is incapacitated by an abnormal network situation.
Integrated system available through other institutions (e.g., local government) when a disaster situation is identified
Broadcast Scale and Range
Messages broadcast nationwide or to specific cities, counties and wards, depending on scope of the disaster
* Nationwide, 30 million subscribers (SKT, KTF, and LGT) use mobile phones that support CBS
Broadcast Content
Release of special (preliminary) weather reports or traffic status
Areas expected to suffer damage, and tips on appropriate actions following a disaster or emergency
Essential information, e.g., contacts during an emergency
How to Disable the Emergency Broadcast Message Feature
SKT
- Turn off from terminal device
[SKT-based] Terminal device menu > Internet/message > Message management > NATE Air > Broadcast channel settings > Air public channel > (Select Disable)
* CBS will be turned off if Disable is selected.
KTF
- Turn off from terminal device
[KTF-based] Terminal device menu > Message (multimail) > Magic multiple queue > Broadcast receiver settings > CBS (select Disable)
* CBS will be turned off if Disable is selected.
LGT
- Turn off from terminal device
[LGT-based] Terminal device menu > eZi channel > miTV > Configuration > Select receiving mode (select Disable)
* CBS will be turned off if Disable is selected.
