This project has involved the support of relevant governmental expenses (50%) since 2005, with the aim of enhancing the government¡¯s reliability by minimizing the damage to life, which is the ultimate goal of disaster prevention.

- Project scale: nine districts for the auto rainfall warning system (new), 33 districts (reinforcement)
* This system has been installed and is currently being operated in 145 districts where
damage to life has occurred due to localized heavy rains, etc.
- Total project cost: 7,764 million won (government expenses: 3,882; local expenses: 3,882)
- Support conditions: Supported by the local governments (government expenses: 50%; local

Selection criteria:
- Districts where damage to life has already occurred, or where there is a high risk of damage to
life due to the fast current in the valleys in the downstream area in the event of localized heavy
rains in the upstream area of the mountains and valleys
- Districts where campers and vacationers are isolated, or where there is a high risk of isolation
due to the fast current in the valleys
- Districts that are very vulnerable to heavy rains during the summer season owing to their deep
valleys and/or sharp slopes, and/or due to the presence of many campsites in their
surroundings
- A naturally formed pleasure ground or village where large-scale damage is expected to occur in
the downstream area according to the rain conditions in the upstream area in the event of
localized heavy rains |
