Date and place of the incident: Apr. 01, 2005 (Mon), 23:53 ~ Apr. 06, 2005 (Wed), 08:00
Mountain Paili, Yangyang-gun (area adjacent to Provincial Road No. 1)
Cause of the incident:
  - The fire may have been started by a mountain hiker.
- Lives lost : none
Damages
  - Victims: 165 households, 420 persons
- 23 billion won in property damages, including the loss of 973 ha of mountains, 544 buildings (163 houses, 69   shops, and 312 structures, including ancillary structures such as warehouses and others), 19 vinyl houses, 30   livestock cages, 650 agricultural machines, and 17 art pieces, such as the bronze bell at Naksansa Shrine,   Wontongbojeon, Hongyemun, and others

Coping with the Disaster
Emergency Measures
  - Informing the departments of the central government and related organizations of the disaster situation, and emergency gathering (Apr. 05, 02:45)
- Installing site command posts in Gangwon-do, Yangyang, and Goseong-gun (Apr. 05, 05:00)
- Emergency measures to prevent a mountain fire taken by the president of the Firefighting and Fire Prevention   Office (Apr. 05, 07:30)
* An all-out response to the disaster was spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture and the President of the   administrative office of Gangwon-do and others.
- The Central Safety Management Committee was organized by the Prime Minister (Apr. 05, 18:40).
* Announcement of the disaster (Apr. 05, 20:00): Yangyang and Goseong areas
- The Ministry of Government Affairs and Administration designated Yangyang in Gangwon-do as a special disaster   zone (Apr. 07, 15:30).
- Investigation of the damages by the government (Apr. 07~11)
- [Damage restoration plan] A review was conducted by the Central Disaster Safety Measure Headquarters
   (Apr. 18).
